----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- To
prepare for the start of practice and to put yourself in the best possible position
to make the Varsity, J.V., Freshman, or Modified Team in the 2008-09 season,
you should be working to better yourself in three areas:
I)
Basketball Skills
II)
Conditioning and Agility
III)
Strength
- With
respect to "Basketball Skills" development, the Coaching Staff will
provide ample "open gym" time and participation in a Fall league during the preseason to work on
your game. Remember that just playing 5 on 5 "pickup" is not
enough in itself do maximally develop your basketball skills. Drills (shooting,
defensive, ball handling, rebounding, etc.), often done by yourself, or perhaps
with 1or 2 partners are just as important as playing the game. At camp
this summer, Coach Ruppert provided you with a comprehensive basketball skills
individual workout.
- Click on the following link (Basketball Skills Workout)
to access this workout. Even if time limitations permit you to only do
part of the workout (maybe breaking it up over two or three days), that is still EXCELLENT!
- Strength
is "the great equalizer" on the basketball court. Again, as
competitive as it is to play basketball for McQuaid at any level, can you afford
not to prepare yourself ? (click

for the pre-season lifting program)
- For
those of you, particular players at the younger levels, who have never lifted
weights, understand that you should begin with very low weight and concentrate
on getting comfortable with lifting as a whole. PROPER SAFETY AND FORM
ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS , NOT SHOWING EVERYONE HOW MUCH WEIGHT
YOU CAN LIFT!!! The links below should prove very helpful in showing your
proper form and technique for many of the lifting exercises which are included
in the strength development part of the program
